Banking & Financial Service Deadlines
- Form 15G/15H submission: Beginning of every financial year (April) to prevent TDS on FD interest
- KYC renewal: Check your bank's KYC expiry โ usually every 2 years for regular accounts, every 8โ10 years for low-risk customers
- FD renewal: Most banks auto-renew at prevailing rate on maturity โ if rates have changed significantly, consider actively renewing at a new rate before maturity
- Nomination update: Review nominees on all financial accounts annually
Insurance Renewal Deadlines
- Health insurance: Renew before expiry โ there is typically a 30-day grace period but coverage lapses during this period for new conditions
- Term insurance: Pay premium before due date โ most policies have 30-day grace period but don't rely on it
- Vehicle insurance: Third-party insurance is mandatory by law โ driving without it is a criminal offence with fine up to โน2,000 + imprisonment

Q: What happens if I miss the ITR filing deadline?
If you miss July 31 but file before December 31 โ โน5,000 late fee (โน1,000 if income below โน5 lakh). After December 31, you cannot file even a belated return โ you lose the right to carry forward losses and must wait for a revised return window. Interest u/s 234A (1% per month on tax due) also applies.
Q: Do I need to pay advance tax?
Yes if your total tax liability for the year exceeds โน10,000 (after TDS credit). This applies to self-employed individuals, freelancers, business owners, and salaried employees with significant other income (rent, interest, capital gains). Salaried employees whose full tax is covered by employer TDS are exempt.
